IEP

Well Pierce is ofcially enrolled in an IEP. The write up was wondefully done. I am mang a copy to give to the case worker and the CHET evaluator. CHET is child health and education tracking. Basically to asses where the kids are and what their special needs may be. With the IEP he is now enrolled with the school district. So he is set for kindergarten next year.
We also went down to the beach and the two youngest spent their time trowing rocks into the water. Pierce and I searched for baby crabs under rocks and tried to find the bad eagles. We found baaby crabs and he was so excited. He thought they were cool and he had a blast.
I want to get Lance into preschool too but the classes start in Sept. The registration requires a $50 NON-refundable depost. $50 is not a fortune but it can be a hit to the pocket book should the boys not be here. I hate the not knowing if you cannot tell from the tone of my recent posts ;)
Maybe I will "ask" in a round about way if I should plan on them being here this fall.

I don't know what state you're in, but you should ask your agency about paying the $50. You shouldn't have to. Ours will pay $50 in reg fees for day care, etc. What type of preschool? If it's public, there may not actually be a fee for him, our foster kids don't pay school fees. Check into it, it's worth a shot! :)

Oh what a great idea! It is a private preschool at the local church. They have a great program and they are within walking distance of us too! ;) double plus. I will talk with the SW and if she thinks they will be here when school starts I can inquire about funding both the deposit and the monthly fees. Thank you!!

Would the kids be eligible for headstart? If so, they should be able to get into one without much notice. As foster children, they might be automatically eligible..... Since foster care systems are usually strapped for money, using a service already provided by the state/fed/whoever may be easier for the SW to approve than paying for private care (even though it may be technically allowed, we all know foster care can't afford a lot of things!)

Also, if you explain (privately, to the director only IMHO), that you have foster children you are interested in enrolling in the fall, they might be able to swing breaking the rules. Maybe they'd make it refundable, or even waive it entirely.

Don't forget with foster care you never really know how long they will be there. We spent years thinking my now-SIL would stay with the family forever and then the last court hearing happened and we were all suprised she was returned to her bio-father and left the family within 2 weeks. My next SIL came for 2 week respite while her foster family was on vacation. She stayed as an emergency placement, and then stayed as a regular placement and MIL adopted her last fall. Other kids show up and leave much quicker than expected. So the SW might tell you one thing but she really has no idea at all how long they will stay.
